Restrictions and Quarantine When Entering Vietnam During Covid 19

Entering Vietnam during this time of the pandemic comes with several restrictions and requirements. This is to ensure that the Covid-19 virus won’t be able to get into the country. Although Vietnam was able to successfully control the spread of the virus, Covid-19 is still fast spreading in several parts around the world. So to protect its citizens, Vietnam is implementing strict requirements for those who wanted to enter the country during this time of the pandemic.

Before Entry

  • All foreign visitors to Vietnam must undergo a 14-day quarantine upon entry. Therefore, one of the requirements to enter the country is to have a hotel booking for the entire 14 days of isolation. There are various hotels all over the country that the Vietnam government has designated as quarantine facilities. You can choose from any of these hotels and present a copy of the booking confirmation upon checking in for your flight. Your hotel booking must also include an airport transfer since you will not be allowed to take public transportation coming from the airport to your quarantine facility.
  • To ensure that none of the visitors are carrying the virus, the Vietnamese authorities have also required visitors to undergo the Covid-19 test at least 3 to 5 days before their flight. The test must be conducted at a WHO-approved laboratory in the United States.
  • All foreign visitors are also required to have insurance that will pay for the cost of treatment if they get sick of Covid-19. For those who do not have insurance, their sponsor company must agree to shoulder the cost of treatment if they end up catching the virus while in Vietnam.

Upon Entry

All travelers arriving at the Vietnam airports will be checked for any symptoms of the Covid-19-virus. Those who will show symptoms will be tested and if they are positive, they will be taken to the hospital for treatment. But if the result is negative, they can proceed directly to their quarantine facility.

At the Quarantine Facility

While undergoing quarantine, all foreign visitors should abide by the health and safety protocols that the local health authorities have imposed to fight the spread of the Covid-19 virus. They should not get into contact with anyone outside of their hotel room. And if they start to show symptoms, they need to inform the health authorities immediately. A Covid-19 test will be conducted on the sixth and last day of isolation. If both tests will give a negative result, the foreign visitor can end isolation.
